Некомпатибилистите се држат до ставот дека науката не може да биде компатибилна, односно согласна со верата. Нивното верување најчесто се заснова на два става: дека науката е философски заснована на еден вид на натурализам, или дека Божјото откровение е непогрешливо, и токму затоа, доколку постои конфликт помеѓу верата и науката, тоа е поради несовршеноста на науката. Ова мислење се занова најмногу на сомнежот во можноста на човечкиот ум да дојде до веродостојни заклучоци.
